2016 Best of Metal List #3

If These Trees Could Talk-Bones of a Dying World

This Ohio sextet hasn’t been creating music for very long, but every album they have released in their brief career has been full of magic.  This is another instrumental group and they are the second group to make the list that employs a three guitar attack.  They really make good use of all three guitars as well.  Each one has their individual assignment as to what texture they bring to the songs and it creates a full soundscape.  Guitarist #1 handles the underlying power riffs that make up the foundation of the song.  Guitarist #2 provides a clean sound that works as the main melody.  Finally, Guitarist #3 supplies a subtle textured tremolo that lays over top of the melody line and adds that extra level of contour that rounds out the sound.  The bassist and drummer are simply solid as providing the needed structure to pull the entire thing together.  I have high hopes for these guys.

I was lucky enough to catch them play an intimate set on the inside stage at The Sidewinder this past summer.  This was their very first proper tour and the songs really came to life in a live setting.

Enjoy this taste of the new album and become transfixed by the hypnotic nature of their song craft.
